True Minnesotan

After living in Minnesota for 26 years (and I am 26 years old), one might find it hard to believe that I had never been ice fishing before. And if you had asked me before last Saturday, it would have been true. But it is true no more!

Last Saturday, I got up early (yes, I consider 9 AM on a Saturday to be very early) to help some guys put their ice fishing house out on Medicine Lake. They had built the pieces for the house themselves, and was mostly modular, so it just needed to be constructed out on the ice. It took a couple hours, but the result was a resounding success. So of course, we needed to try it.

I bought a cheapo ice fishing rod from the nearby Holiday gas station as well as some necessary snacks. The house actually gets fairly warm on the inside with the clear plastic tarp roof creating a sort of greenhouse effect. And with a large stock of beer on hand to complete the set, I felt thoroughly Minnesotan.

We didn't even get a nibble, but that OK. I am an ice fishing virgin no more.
